Interested in hearing more about Geelong's new childcare centre, Bambini Early Learning Centre? The Newtown facility has been operating for a couple of months now, and Katelin Blackwell, Lead Educator, gives us a glimpse of life inside the Waratah Room (12-18 months).

This week the children explored shapes and textures when they attended their first art class in our purpose-built art studio. Our art teacher provided some fantastic activities for the children like sticking foam shapes onto sticky paper — a great sensory experience for one-year-olds. The children explored different textures as they squeezed the foam pieces and pressed their fingers onto the sticky paper, enabling them to express their ideas while using a range of media.
To the outdoors... the children explored our natural environments and play experiences. The ball pit is always a popular play space for the children and provides a great area for the children to grow their social skills while enjoying the sunshine.
Inside, the Waratah Room is set up with stimulating experiences that are inviting and of interest to the children. This week we provided a variety of musical instruments for the children to play with, encouraging them to investigate the different sounds they make. We played different types of music for the children as they danced, which helped them to explore movement and spatial awareness.

During rest times we close the blinds and play soft, calming music. We ensure each child’s individual routines are met via ongoing consultation with parents. Children are provided their own space to rest comfortably and their comforters from home. Our educators sit with them and gently soothe them to sleep. We remain close by to monitor them and ensure that when they wake, it is a calm and positive transition - ready and refreshed for more fun at Bambini...
